Loving Life at Forty

I never thought turning forty would feel so incredible.

Years ago, when my grandma was still alive, she told me, “You’ll glide into your forties, and they’ll be the best years of your life.” At the time, I found it hard to believe, but now, after almost a year of being forty, I realise she was onto something. I’m loving every second of this stage of my life—feeling more comfortable in my own skin and excited to discover new talents within me.

At forty, I struggle to wear heels, but I don’t mind. Yes, our bodies change as we age, but I still feel fantastic, thanks to my daily walks, meditation, and yoga. My confidence is higher than ever, and I finally feel ready to take on the world. By prioritising my health and wellbeing, I know anything is possible. I feel more connected, happier, and wiser as the years go by.

Embracing Change and New Possibilities

Turning forty has made me embrace midlife with gratitude. I’ve realised I don’t have a ‘proper’ career—but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to start something new. In fact, I feel like now is the perfect time to chase my dreams. I have strong ambitions that new pathways will open up, leading me toward a career in modelling or acting. It’s time to explore, dream, and see what I’m truly capable of.

I’ve lived in Bayside, Melbourne, for most of my life, and I’ve always had a deep love for creativity, arts, and culture. Some of my biggest passions include reading, theatre, film festivals, art galleries, beach walks with my dog, and travelling the world.

After finishing school in Melbourne, I studied Community Theatre in Ballarat, followed by Professional Writing and Editing in Bendigo. I’ve always had a strong creative energy, so keeping my mind active with learning has been important to me. I even moved to Chewton, near Castlemaine, during my studies, embracing the beauty and inspiration of regional Victoria.

Later, I moved back to Melbourne, drawn by its vibrancy and opportunities. Over time, I also explored Health and Nutrition, earning a Certificate in Allied Health, where I was awarded top student of my class. Though I enjoyed the course, I realised I preferred applying my knowledge to my own life rather than making a career out of it.

I also studied Floristry at Melbourne Polytechnic, gaining hands-on experience in a florist shop in Sandringham. I absolutely loved the creativity involved, and it remains a skill I cherish.

Finding My Purpose

Alongside my studies, I’ve worked in various retail and hospitality roles, from a French fashion store and a juice bar to gift shops, cafés, and restaurants. I’ve also volunteered in op shops around Bayside.

But the truth is, I’ve never felt completely fulfilled in any of these jobs. People say, “If you love what you do, it won’t feel like work.” Unfortunately, for me, most jobs have felt like a chore—I was never excited to jump out of bed in the morning.

I’ve spent years convincing myself that stepping into a new career would be too overwhelming. But deep down, I know I have talents waiting to be explored. If you want your dream job, you have to go out and get it. You have to put in the work, believe in yourself, and not let anything—or anyone—hold you back.

Looking back, all my experiences have shaped me. They’ve helped me grow, develop lifelong skills, and make meaningful connections. I now know that I’ll never feel truly happy unless I’m pursuing what I love.

A Love for Self-Expression

I’ve always dreamed of writing a book—sharing the rollercoaster ride of my life, filled with physical and mental challenges. Life isn’t always smooth sailing, but with the support of family and friends, we get through. I’m so grateful for the love and kindness of those around me, and I cherish the joy of creating new memories together.

Being a creative person, I’ve recently found a fun way to express myself—taking ‘selfie’ photos and sharing them on social media. It’s become a little personal project, documenting my adventures and capturing moments that make me smile. Whether I’m on a train, at the theatre, or at the movies, each photo tells a story.

Stepping in Front of the Camera

My love for capturing moments made me realise something—I wanted professional photos to celebrate my happiness and confidence at forty. That’s when I had a portrait session with Simply Gray Photography. It was an amazing experience, and the photos truly reflect my natural beauty. More importantly, they serve as a reminder to be proud of who I am and encourage others to do the same.

My dream is that my smile will inspire hope and positivity. The world needs more kindness, and sometimes, all it takes is a simple smile. Despite being a ‘bigger’ woman, I feel beautiful and confident—because beauty isn’t about size; it’s about how you feel inside.

I will keep smiling, even when life gets tough, because I believe a smile has the power to heal, uplift, and even change the world. A smile is contagious—when you share one, it often comes right back to you.

So, if my photos bring a smile to your face, then I’ve achieved something special. And I’ll keep smiling, because life is meant to be lived with joy, confidence, and endless possibilities.
