Kim Berkers - WISE WOMEN 2024

The question isn’t who’s going to let me, it’s who is going to try and stop me! I love a challenge.
— Kim Berkers

How wise are you? 50 Years Wise

Where are you from?
Farfield, Victoria.

I'm Melbourne born and bred, but have travelled around Australia living in almost every other state at some stage, and also spent 6 months living in the UK before having a family, and then another 6 months living in France when my kids were little. I have worked in hospitality most of my life and love the adrenaline rush it provides. From managing large scale international events, being a CEO for one of Melbourne's leading restaurant groups and owning my own food business, I love seeing a project come to life and leading teams through difficult times to achieve great results.

What about your life would you like to celebrate most?
Life has so many facets, and one of the greatest things about turning 50 is the perspective it brings. Between family, friends, work, and travel, there’s an endless amount to celebrate—and I’m making the most of every chance I get!

With the next trip always booked, I’m enjoying a balanced life between work and play, while also cherishing the relationships that matter most. Watching my kids grow older and wiser, strengthening my bond with my partner and family, and reconnecting with friendships—some of which had taken a back seat when life and work balance wasn’t quite right.

After turning 50 last year, I made the bold decision to leave an industry I loved and thrived in to seek out something new. I wanted to push myself, step outside my comfort zone, and start learning again. I may not have found my ‘forever job’ just yet, but I’m embracing new skills, meeting incredible people, and working alongside those with a wealth of different backgrounds and experiences. And that, in itself, feels like a new adventure.

What 3 words best describe you in this phase of your life? Courageous, Happy, Excited

What do you love about this time of life? I love that I’m brave enough to step into something completely new—and that I no longer worry about what others think or whether they judge me for it. Even if the choices I make aren’t forever, I’m willing to learn, grow, and push boundaries that once felt out of reach. In the past, I might have held back, afraid of how others would perceive me. But now? I’m choosing to embrace change on my own terms.

“If you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough”
— Kim Berkers

I always tell my team this, mistakes are part of growth. I’m willing to make them, and they need to be willing too—because that’s how we push boundaries and innovate. This mindset reassures them that thinking outside the box isn’t just okay—it’s encouraged!
